Adam Riess has won the 2011 Nobel prize in physics for the discovery that the expansion of the universe is speeding up, along with Brian Schmidt and Saul Perlmutter. Educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, Riess now works at Johns Hopkins University and the Space Telescope Science Institute, both in Baltimore, Maryland.
